Doug Jones Curved Nautical Bench in Mahogany

The 2006 winner for Best in Show in the Custom/Studio Furniture category of the Vermont Fine Furniture and Wood Products Design Competition, this handcrafted bench was designed for a large, circular sitting area in a private residence that overlooks spectacular Lake Champlain. The luxurious lines of this unique modern contemporary bench were intended both to complement the curving architecture of the customer's decor and to evoke nautical themes brought to mind by the view of the lake. The classic bench is constructed with mahogany slats over a bent-plywood armature sandwiched between solid frames; Doug turned the four legs and hand-carved the armrests. He finished the piece with a lovely and durable oil/varnish combination that is irresistable to the touch and must be seen to be believed.

Mahogany with milk paint details over hand carved stripes, gold leaf top, "bees wing" eucalyptus veneer over MDF. Turned and shaped legs, inset painted panels.
